Breastfeeding Peer Support in Wakefield

We are excited to say that Families and Babies (FAB) have been commissioned by Wakefield Council to deliver the Breastfeeding Promotion and Community Peer Support Service, although this new service commences on the 1st August 2022, much of the work we do will remain the same, supporting new families to enjoy their breastfeeding journey’s and helping to normalise breastfeeding across the district.

FAB are also commissioned by Mid Yorks NHS Trust to support breastfeeding on the postnatal wards at Pinderfields Hospital helping to get breastfeeding off to a great start.

What FAB offers

If you require breastfeeding support please call our 24hour breastfeeding helpline 01924 851901 to speak to a peer supporter for help over the telephone, find your nearest breastfeeding group or arrange an appointment at FAB or a home visit.

Online Antenatal Course

Are you pregnant? Do you want to know about bonding with your bump, skin to skin contact, and breastfeeding your baby? If so why not sign up to our online antenatal course. The course is FREE to Wakefield residents (you can get get a discount code from your midwife or by calling 01924 851901 and partners and supporters are also welcome to register. Please note this course does not cover labour and birth, you will need to discuss this with your midwife. Take the course

Breastfeeding Groups

Our Breastfeeding Peer Supporters are available to chat to at a number of groups across the district, you can pop in to any of the groups without an appointment. Meet other mums, make new friends, share your experiences, get breastfeeding support or just ask the breastfeeding question that is niggling away at you.

Please tell us about anywhere you have had a great experience of breastfeeding your baby so that we can pass the message onto other new mums. If you see this sticker in a shop, café or other venue it means that they have already signed up and made a commitment to being breastfeeding friendly and they will welcome breastfeeding mums.

We have a lovely base in Wakefield Centre with a charity shop! We sell low priced preloved baby clothes and baby items – as well as our own merchandise!
